2022 Sam Harrop & Stepp Grand Amateur Merchant Cab Franc, Pfalz, Germany
$48.99
The 2022 Grand Amateur Merchant is a collaboration between Sam and his long-suffering friend and winemaker, par excellence – Gerd Stepp.
This is a cool climate single vineyard red, made from one of Germany’s oldest and most exciting Cabernet Franc vineyards – situated in the Pfalz region of Southern Germany. As with past Grand Amateur Cabernet Franc’s this stunning wine is made in the tradition of the finest barrel-aged Loire Cabernet Franc’s. While it is rich, it also has finesse and elegance.
In Appearance : dark purple or deep red color
On the Nose : crunchy red fruits, with peppery notes
On the Palate : It is medium-bodied with a bit more weight than past vintages of Grand Amateur Cabernet Franc. Nuanced cedar, fresh plum and a hint of red capsicum fill the palate. With its refreshing acidity, this wine has a wonderful balance and palate length. While it is still showing the exuberance of youth, it will develop more layers and complexity as it ages towards its apex 2029-2030.
