Cam Douglas : 95 points
Fantastic wine, taut and youthful with a bouquet of flinty, fresh stone and citrus fruits, a positive, gentle reductive layer and mineral, fine lees complexity. A dry wine with plenty of weight and a satin mouthfeel, flavours range from white apricot and peach to apple and sweet grapefruit. Layers of wood introduce fine tannins and a natural wood sweetness, as well as added complexity and length. Well made, with best drinking from day of purchase through to 2032+.
In Color : Pale gold hue.
On the Nose : heady combination of pineapple, pear and citrus, along with a fresh minerality beautifully underpinned by subtle creamy nutty oak, brioche, nougat and hints of cinnamon.
On the Palate : The palate follows, offering at the heart a satisfying combination of lemon curd sweetness, orange zest and softer savoury notes of hazelnut and sour dough, balanced by a crisp, mineral acidity and linearity driving a long, lingering finish.
Novum
Brainchild of Will and Rachel Hoare, Novum is a boutique Marlborough project defined by single-site precision, low intervention, and a clear-eyed vision of varietal clarity.
Will’s family were among Marlborough’s very first contract grape growers and still own around 40-hectares of vineyards on land purchased in 1978.
Novum focuses on Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah from carefully chosen single sites rather than mass-produced blends. The label’s name comes from the Latin “novum,” meaning “new,” reflecting a modern, detail‑driven approach to classic varieties.
Novum Wines leave a lasting impression — distilled, articulate, and shaped by intent rather than expectation.
